St Patrick's Day Party

Chelsea and Logan hosted another "Book Club" for neighborhood girls.  They are raising money to go on the Disneyland Tour with the school dance team.  Chelsea and Logan have been so good about planning "Book Clubs" for the neighborhood girls.  Love that these girls have found a way to not only earn money but develop great skills in party planning and childcare.

They played games together as all the cute  K-2 graders arrived.
They then read some cute Leprechaun stories.

They then split in two groups.  With Chelsea taking one group and going on a treasure hunt and Logan starting on a craft.

The girls made the cutest rainbow craft.  Thank you to Tracy!!

Now, Logan is taking her groups of girls on a treasure hunt to look for the Pot of Gold.

They followed these clues left by a Leprechaun which led them to the pot of gold.

Since the party was on St. Patrick's Day, of course, Chelsea had to teach the girls some Irish Dance steps.

We then prepared a "Lucky" snack.

Mother's Day Prep for Girls

We invited a few girls over for a Mother's Day celebration.

The girls made a few gifts for their mothers.

The GIFT girls came over on a different day.  They made a few gifts and also learned how to make a layered strawberry shortcake.  Many mothers told me later that their girls made the dessert for them on Mother's Day.

GIFT- Pretzel Making

On a Friday during Lent, these cute girls came over for some fun and pretzel making.

One of the girls brought their Japanese students to hang out with us.  They were so cute and eager to be here.

I found out that many people make pretzels during Lent.  The pretzel symbolizes arms being folded in prayer.

The pretzels were so delicious -  finally came up with the most delicious and easiest pretzel recipe.

Family Activity for Lent:
Making Pretzels
by Marcia Floding
Pretzels have an important meaning during Lent. Pretzels were made in the fifth century as a Lenten food in Austria, Germany, and Poland. People began to make them on Ash Wednesday, the very first day of Lent. The word "pretzel" is a German word meaning "little arms." The dough was shaped in such a way to look like two arms crossed in prayer.

Pretzels were made to take the place of bread, since milk, eggs, and fats were not used during Lent. On certain days during Lent it was the custom to give pretzels to the townspeople who were poor.
As a family, make some pretzels. Two variations for making pretzels are included on the back of this sheet. Enjoy the pretzels and let them remind you that Lent is a time of prayer.

Before you eat the pretzels, say a prayer together:
Dear God, we ask you to bless these pretzels which we are about to eat. Each time we eat them may we be reminded that this is the season of Lent, a time of prayer. Help us to remember to pray for those who need our prayers each day. Keep your loving arms around us, O God, to protect us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Pop To Your Fullest Potential Party

I had a "Pop to Your Fullest Potential" party.  I really just love saying the name of the party.

I tried to say it everytime I got a chance just because it made me smile.

A bunch of Chelsea's friends from school and the neighboring school came over one afternoon
to eat lunch and have a party.  All of these girls have such amazing potential.  Hoping to inspire them to be the best they can be.

They started out by organizing their own game of "Sharks and Minnows."  Love how all the girls organize themselves into their own game.

We then talked about the importance of popping to our full potential by being courageous and trying new things. I read a Popcorn Parable.  These girls are all so amazingly talented and sweet.

The girls then drew a "new" activity out of a bowl.

They worked on their new activity for 10 minutes.
Then they all shared what they did and learned with each other

The girls are listening to their friend recite a poem she wrote.

The girls were:
artists
journalists
newscasters
calligraphers
hula hoopers
puppeters
chefs
Note writers
photographer
joke teller
stilts
Teacher
Crafter

We then broke out into groups and made these cute gumball machines.
